On October 11, 2001 my dad went to work. He works in a warehouse and from time to time birds get trapped in the back of the building. That's where the storage area is and sometimes no one goes there. Sometimes the birds die unless someone notices them and helps them find their way out.

My dad's co-worker found a small white bird and he called out to his co-workers to come check it out. My dad got interested in at least saving its life. After chasing it around for a long time the bird started to get tired and my dad caught it in mid-flight. He put in a box and after work he brought it home.

My family and I put wild bird seeds in the box to see if it would eat. After a while we heard it eating the seeds. I took a peek in the box. I immediately fell in love with it. I've never seen such a cute bird before. My family and I knew it wasn't a wild bird and that perhaps it was a Finch. So we went to the pet store to get it the proper seeds and a cage. While I was at the store I saw a picture of a Finch on one of the seed bags. I immediately knew that it was in fact a Finch.

Finally, after a family chat and seeing how cute it was we decided to keep it. I went on the internet and decided to find out what kind of Finch it was. After researching many sites I found a good one, which was Myra’s Finches. I e-mailed her the pictures I had of the Finch. She e-mailed me back with the answer that my bird is a male Chestnut Flanked White Zebra Finch.

My family and I decided to name him Snow. We took him to the Vet. To our surprise he was perfectly healthy. We also found out that he was a young bird about one years old at that time.

We have no idea how Snow got to my dad's work because there are no houses around there. Nevertheless I'm glad that we found him. He's my very first bird and he's very special to me.
